Should we be teaching students how to be happier?

I was on a walk with my husband and daughter yesterday; it was wonderful weather despite being in the middle of winter! Chris and I got to talking about the pros and cons of the education system, which is a topic we gravitate toward given both of our professions (he is a school psychologist). One idea stood out to me in our conversation: schools don’t teach how to be a happy, balanced person. 

Yes, some teachers may help students to develop these skills, but why isn’t this TAUGHT? Isn’t life balance more important than Algebra? I think this is saying a lot coming from a math enthusiast. I originally came across this thought while watching a Ted Talks where Logan LaPlante talks about “Hackschooling”. I have attached the talk below for your viewing pleasure.
